The Apple Gold Group, franchisee of Applebee’s restaurants in North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma and Arkansas, is proud to have helped the family, friends and church of Kathy Baker Simpson, a local resident who was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer two months ago, raise over $2,500 at a recent Flapjack Fundraiser. Proceeds raised will help pay for her treatment.
"We were touched to see so many members of the community come together to support Kathy and her family during this difficult time," said Michael Olander, President and CEO of the Apple Gold Group. "We were proud to be part of this fundraising cause and our thoughts are with Kathy and her family as they continue to fight this horrible disease."
The Kathy Simpson Breast Cancer Fund fundraiser was hosted on July 30, 2011, by the Applebee’s restaurant located at 9616 E. Independence Blvd., Matthews, NC. The organization sold 280 tickets and an additional $474 in donations was collected. Breakfast included a short stack of pancakes, sausage, milk, juice and coffee.
Applebee’s is proud to partner with any local non-profit organization as a way to raise money for their cause. From ticket sales to event-day staff, the breakfasts are managed by the non-profit organization with the assistance of Applebee’s employee volunteers. Breakfasts can be held on Saturday or Sunday morning, and cost the organization around $2 a meal. The Applebee’s Flapjack Fundraisers represent the restaurant chain’s latest efforts to remain active within its local neighborhood.
